About Dickey Farms

OUR STORY

Dickey Farms has been growing peaches in the heartland of Georgia for over 120 years. Our growers are part of a multi-generational legacy with experience being handed down from one generation to the next.

We’re proud to be home to Georgia’s oldest, continuously operating peach packinghouse. In 1936, Robert L. “Mr. Bob” Dickey built the packinghouse with lumber hewn off his own land.  Today, the long white building is a prominent landmark in historic Musella, Georgia.  At the time of construction, the packinghouse was ideally located near rail lines for better transportation to the peach-hungry North.

“Mr. Bob” was an early pioneer of “multitasking”, being a postmaster, undertaker, depot agent and general store manager.  Today, the general store is still located across the packinghouse. However, his heart was in the peach industry, and we are reaping the rewards today.

In the early days of Dickey Farms, mules were used to plow the orchards and to transport peaches to the packinghouse.  At that time, most of the work was done manually.  However, “Mr. Bob” was a forward-thinker, always wanting to introduce labor saving equipment. He installed Georgia’s very first brushing machine to remove the peach fuzz. He was also one of the first producers to include a hydro-cooling system that places peaches in 35-degree water to remove field dust and slow the ripening process, making them perfect when reaching the northern markets.

While “Mr. Bob” shipped all his fruit by refrigerated railroad cars, peaches today are shipped by refrigerated trucks, which can reach some markets overnight.  Although many changes in the industry have been made over the last 100 years, the Dickey family still continues the tradition of providing the highest quality peach.

Food safety is a major concern in the production of all food sources and peaches are no exception. In 2003 Dickey Farms successfully completed the requirements of the Georgia GAP Food Safety Program with continued yearly audits. In 2012, Dickey Farms went a step further by completing a third party Global G.A.P audit. This type audit has world-wide standards and is a mandatory requirement by many of our wholesale buyers. A requirement in both audits is the ability to trace peaches from the wholesale customer back to the orchard where it was grown and when it was picked and packed. We are committed to providing all our retail and wholesale customers with a high quality, safe product.

OUR GROWERS

We’ve been growing peaches in the heartland of Georgia for over 120 years. Our growers are part of a multi-generational legacy with experience being handed down for five generations.

Today, Robert Lee Dickey II (Mr. Bob) “Robert” Lee Dickey III, and Robert “Lee” Dickey IV work together to carry on the farming legacy of growing the sweetest peaches in the south. Drawing on deep family experience, our growers are in the orchards year-round looking at every detail.

We believe our multi-generational experience makes us some of the most knowledgeable and skilled growers in the peach industry. We can truly say that we love what we do and we bring that passion out into our farm every day.

OUR VALUES

QUALITY
Since 1897, our farm has built its reputation on producing the highest quality of Georgia peaches. As peach experts, we spend all of our time year-round in the orchards looking at every detail. Each one of our peaches are hand-picked at the exact height of their season and rushed from the orchard to our guests for an unmatched peach experience. Our peach orchards are nestled into the warm Georgia soil, making them in the perfect setting to grow the finest peaches in the country.

FOOD SAFETY
We believe in treating our customers like family, which is why we want to give you the very best. COMMUNITY
We consider ourselves more than just the best growers and packers of Georgia peaches. At Dickey Farms, we strive to be a place where families and friends can come to enjoy themselves and build memories together. Some of our guests are just as multi-generational as we are, and have been bringing their children and grandchildren to our packinghouse for their first taste of sweet peaches and peach ice cream. We are committed to serving, leading and educating our community in Georgia agriculture and are dedicated to the greater agriculture community in the country.
